How to upload SRT subtitles to Facebook videos

Facebook requires subtitle files to use a specific filename format with a language code. This guide shows how to prepare your SRT file before uploading it to a Facebook video.

Step 1: Create or edit your subtitles

Open your video in Flixlar, import an existing SRT file or create subtitles manually. When you are done, export the subtitles as an SRT file.

Step 2: Rename the SRT file for Facebook

Facebook expects the subtitle filename to include the language code. For English subtitles, the filename should usually end with .en_US.srt.

my-video.en_US.srt

For Danish subtitles, use:

my-video.da_DK.srt

Step 3: Upload the SRT file to your Facebook video

Go to your video settings in Facebook or Meta Business Suite and find the captions or subtitles section. Upload the renamed SRT file there.

Step 4: Check that Facebook detects the language

After upload, check that Facebook recognizes the subtitle language correctly. If the upload fails, the filename is often the first thing to check.
